Information Resources Hall the users with limited abilities
The Fergana Regional scientific-universal library began to participate in the Project "The Network of information resources on handicap issues for the civil society in Uzbekistan", financed by the European Union Commission under the program "Partnership in institutional development/ Support for civil society and local initiatives" from the beginning of 2005.
The project is coordinated by the French nonprofit association Handicap International and is implemented in partnership with three local NPOs (Kokand Business Women Association, The Centre for Information-legal support of spinal-invalids "STATUS" and the Centre of support for children with limited abilities and their families "Umidvorlik".
The first stage in the project was building a pandus for easy entrance to the library for people with limited abilities; the following stage was a "Hall of information resources on handicap issues" was open on the base of the city subscription department.
On April 26, 2005 a presentation of the Hall took place at the city subscription department.
The employees and specialists of Fergana, Marguilan and Kuvasay cities organizations working with people with limited abilities visited the presentation. The hall received 224 books and 19 video tapes.
The main directions to of the Hall's work is serving the organization and specialists working with various handicap problems (education, social and professional integration etc.), information support of the people with limited abilities, member of their families, organizations, as well as providing equal opportunities in access to information, formation of information culture of the handicaps.
The Hall successfully cooperates with the organizations working with people with limited abilities. The presentations about the Hall were organized:
in a boarding school for mentally-retarded kids No86,
in Fergana Ministry of social maintenance (MSM),
in specialized kindergartens No20 and No29.
The Hall book fund is unique. It contains materials on methods of teaching, education, treatment necessary for teachers, psychologists, trainers, speech therapists, massagers and other specialists working with people with limited abilities.
A video film show "Equal opportunities for everybody, issues of love, the barriers inside" was organized for 30 teachers and specialist of the MSM. Before the movie show there was a review about the Hall's work, its funds and services.
For the present time the Hall serves to over 300 users. All facilities under the project are free.
