Halloween holiday celebration in our Library  03.11.2009 14:01

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the eve of All Hallows day. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints, but is today largely a secular celebration.

For the Foreign Literature reading hall users, students and pupils learning English a celebration of the Halloween has been organized. The holiday is celebrated on the night October 31 to November 1 and it is considered one of the favorite holidays in English-speaking countries. Nowadays the holiday is celebrated all around the world and is loved by both kids and adolescents.

Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

The evening organizers were the Foreign Literature Department and the Department for Work with Youth of the library.

The students of Fergana State University - foreign philology dept., academic lyceum, art college, schools #2 and #16 of Altiaryk region actively participated in the event. The kids decorated the hall with handmade articles. Among those were jack-o'-lanterns, faced baloons. The walls were decorated with the kids' Halloween drawings. All participants of the event received ghost masks at entrance.

     

The administrator of the Department for Work with Youth Feruza Almuhametova and chief librarian of the Foreign Literature Department Osiyo Muminova opened the evening. They were grateful to the visitors for their coming and participation in the holiday organization and expressed hope for future cooperation.

After that two presenters Munojat Rizaeva and Otabek Rozikov conducted the event in Uzbek and English lessons. Telling the history of the Halloween holiday they asked spectators questions and rewarded active participation with prizes.

Regular users of the Reading Hall I. Ganiev, D. Urinboev, S. Ahmadalieva showed their skills in break-dancing, and a freshman of the Art college M. Kodirova presented an Arabic dance.

    

The FerSU and Academic lyceum students presented a comic sketch How to Film a Horror Film. Between presentations contests were held: «Mummy», «Halloween sketches», «Dexterity» in which the spectators took part and the best won prizes.

At the end of the evening everybody joined to Celine Dion and sang her soundtrack to Titanic movie.
